Michael has no background in art, not even at school. He came to art by accident, a chance conversation with a friend in 2013. Enthused by what she said, he enrolled in a local art class. He started with watercolour, moved briefly to oils then settled on pastels, finding the direct contact with paper very satisfying.

 

He paints for the joy of it, with landscape, history and wildlife his preferred themes. The Isle of Purbeck, where Michael has lived since 2024, is an inspirational location for his work. He greatly admires the work of Felicity House and Richard Suckling.
